Full Moon in Cancer

The Full Moon is the time when the Sun and Moon are opposite each other in the sky. This creates a mirror effect where things are brought to our awareness. This is a time when efforts are brought to their completion. It is a time of reflection, emotional reactions and endings. There is often an exuberant vibration at this time. This Full Moon is a Blue Moon (2 Full Moons in a month) in Cancer. This Full Moon asks us how comfortable we are with our friends, ourselves, our homes we create, and especially our feelings and reactions. Projects started at the time of the New Moon (Dec.16, in Sagittarius) come to their fruition.

The Sabian Symbol for 11 degrees Cancer (the degree of the Full Moon)is: A mother moderates a difficult discussion at the dinner table. Key phrases for this degree are: having a heart-to-heart talk vs. sidestepping an emotional issue and seeing beyond social masks and listening with the heart. Winter Solstice

The Winter Solstice marks not only the beginning of winter in the Northern Hemisphere, but is celebrated in the Wiccan tradition as Yule. It is the shortest day of the year with the longest night and marks the return of the sun as the days start to get longer after the Winter Solstice. This is a time of new beginnings, usually marked by New Year’s. This is a good day to reflect on the previous year, stop and remember with creativity and writing the year gone by. It is also a good day to consider your goals for the coming year and what you would like to change about yourself, your circumstances, or your spiritual practice. Spend some time on your own at the Winter Solstice to think and review as well as renew for the coming year.

Interview: Astrology 101 from the My Magical Journey website

I am so THRILLED to be sharing the following interview with you! I want to provide the best materials and resources on this site, and I am a total newbie at astrology. Anne Westlund (that's her friendly picture on the left) wrote to me several weeks ago, and after visiting her website and blog, I was so impressed with her knowledge of astrology and her conversational writing style that I asked her to do an interview to be published on both of our sites. I hope you enjoy the following interview, and please check out her site, The Divine Life, and her blog - both are filled with great information about astrology and other divination topics. Enjoy!

What is astrology?

Astrology is based on the movements of the Planets, Sun and Moon against the background of fixed stars, known as the Zodiac, as seen from Earth. Those positions at the time of an individual's birth form the Natal Birth Chart. The Planets and the Sun and Moon are constantly in motion. The correspondence between planetary movements and conditions in human life and society has been an area of study for centuries. "As above, so below" is a maxim that applies to Astrological influences. Astrology can give us information on identity, relationships, future trends, and family influences. Astrology is a highly useful tool with practical applications. Feel free to explore the many books and websites devoted to Astrology on your path to learning!

How did you get started in astrology?

For my 18th birthday I received Linda Goodman’s Linda Goodman's Love Signs: A New Approach to the Human Heart .I was a Freshman in college at the time. Her expressive style of writing was especially good at explaining relationships (of all kinds) between the sun signs. This sparked a lifelong interest in Astrology and other types of Divination. I learned Astrology through reading books, observation, practice (casting birth charts by hand), and more recently, online classes.
There is so much to learn about astrology. Where does one start?
A good way to start is to learn about the Astrological signs (Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces) and the Planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto). The signs and the Planets are the foundation of the study of Astrology. A classic book of basic Sun sign Astrology is Linda Goodman's Sun Signs . A newer approach can be found in Astrology for the Light Side of the Brain , by Kim Rogers-Gallagher. There are also many websites devoted to Astrology. A user-friendly one with a lot of basic information as well as current Astrological information is About.com’s Astrology site.

How can astrology be of use in daily life?

Even beginning students of Astrology can benefit from it in their daily lives. You can learn about your Sun sign and further develop the strengths of that sign while modifying the weaknesses of your Sun sign. You can apply Astrology to love, work and family relationships to better understand these and make them more harmonious. The study of Astrological transits can give you insight into favorable and unfavorable times of the year. Knowing what energies (Planets) are affecting your life at the moment can give you an understanding of the current mood, energy levels, events and relationships in your life. Even just following the Moon sign changes can be helpful in scheduling activities.
How has knowing astrology changed the way you view and approach the world?
I see people as complicated, but ultimately I see the hand of the Divine on them. Astrology is not about dividing humanity into 12 personalities. From our individual charts rise unique and diverse personalities and lives. We are allspecial. Astrology can point us in the direction of our gifts and skills, but it is still our responsibility to develop them. Knowing Astrology had made me a more patient person with other people as well. It has made me more comfortable with change and more understanding of others. Knowing Astrology has also made me more accepting of my faults and imperfections. I tend to look at the world through the lens of Astrology, and testing theory against reality is a common practice for me.
How can astrology be combined with other types of divination/psychic tools?
Astrology is just one source of information. Using Tarot, Numerology, the I Ching, Runes and other forms of Divination along with Astrology can only help to clarify the messages you are receiving. Of course, you can go overboard! Too many readings may result in confusion rather than clarity. The Horoscope Spread is one example of the combination of Tarot and Astrology. 12 Tarot cards are laid out in 2 rows of 6 cards. Each card stands for a house in an Astrological chart. So the 1st card stands for the 1st house and so on. Then the combination of Tarot cards and house meanings can be combined for greater insight. For me, the best combination of Divination/psychic tools and Astrology is to do your Divination/psychic work/journeying during potent Astrological events. Such events would be the New and Full Moons, Eclipses, the Summer and Winter Solstices and the Fall and Spring Equinoxes. This gives you 28 powerful times of the year to do Divination and Psychic work.

Do you have any other resources that you would recommend for those of us who are interested in learning more about astrology?

I recommend any book by Stephen Arroyo. Also there are some wonderful websites. You can get a free birth chart drawn up at: http://www.astro.com/ You can get interpreted Astrological reports at: http://astrocom.com/
There is a lot of general information on Astrology and other forms of Divination at: http://www.tarot.com/astrology/Once again, About.com’s Astrology page is a good place to start: http://astrology.about.com/

Thanks for your interest in Astrology. Happy learning!

Guest Blogger: Melanie Parker: Psychic Tarot: Who Shuffles?

Psychic Tarot:Who Shuffles?

Every tarot article on this site is going to center around reading the tarot psychically. With that mindset, it is important that we trust our own intuitive sense on what is best for each reading. Maybe we have a set way of doing things, like shuffling the cards ourselves, and then one day have an urge to hand the cards over to the seeker to shuffle. I think this is what makes living with psychic awareness so much fun! Every experience is an opportunity for something new and different. We are continually growing, learning, and changing, and that is called living in Spirit. I saw a video of Sonia Choquette on YouTube, and she said the conscious mind wants things to be safe and secure, to stay the same, but the Spirit wants to move, change, and soar!

If you’ve already read my Psychic Tarot Reading ecourse, you know that my guidance has been to let the seeker shuffle the cards. I just found a message from my Spirit Guides that I wrote down last May:

It doesn’t matter who shuffles because answers come from guides/energy consciousness. However, we would like you to ask them to shuffle and place to get them participating in the act, so it is a collective energy, not just you.

You may have different guidance and do things for different reasons. Of course, what if you are reading for someone long-distance? In this case, I connect with the seeker and their guides energetically in my mediation before doing the reading, and then I do the reading. The entire time, I feel an energetic connection to them. I think the best way to do this is to feel love for them on a soul level.

So what do you do? Do you shuffle, or do you let the seeker shuffle? What has been your guidance on this subject?

One of the things I love about being able to comment back and forth on this website is the opportunity to learn from each other and grow in our own abilities and understanding. Please share your insights with us so we can create a loving, supportive community.

Happy tarot reading!

How can knowing the Moon's sign help you? - Moon in Aries

How can knowing the Moon's sign help you?

You may have considerably more energy when the Moon is in the same sign as your Sun sign.  You may feel depleted of energy when the Moon is in the opposite sign of your Sun sign.  If possible you can schedule more activities on your high energy days and relax on your low energy days.  You can cultivate awareness by paying attention to your energy levels on different days and correlate them to the Moon sign.

Zodiac Polarities (Zodiac sign and its opposite sign):

Aries/Libra
Taurus/Scorpio
Gemini/Sagittarius
Cancer/Capricorn
Leo/Aquarius
Virgo/Pisces

Saturn in Libra

Saturn will be in Libra for the next two and a half years.  It will retrograde back into Virgo from April 7th to July 21st, 2010, then resume in Libra.  While this transit affects Virgos and Libras directly, Saturn affects everyone, especially where Libra falls in your particular birth chart.  Saturn rewards hard work, discipline, structure, and practical efforts.  For Libras, this can be a time period of struggle and oppression.  It may feel as if you are carrying extra weight on your shoulders and as if you have to work harder just to stay in the same place.  For everyone, during this time period there will be a focus on partnerships, especially close ones.  What area of your life could benefit from some hard work?

What is Divination? - Moon in Scorpio

What is Divination?

Divination is also known as Fortune Telling.  It encompasses such well-known methods as Tarot, Astrology, Runes, and I Ching as well as lesser known methods like reading tea leaves, Pendulum work, the Ogham and reading omens (flights of birds, etc.).  Divination can be used to find information about the past or present, or to chart a course for the future.  Divination does not predict a future set in stone, but reveals possible outcomes, based on current circumstances.  We always have free will and not everything is fated.  The different physical methods (cards, coins, runes, etc.) allow the "reader" to use their intuition, knowledge, and any psychic ability to find out trends and insights into the question asked.  If you have any questions about Divination methods feel free to post them.

We will look at ways to incorporate divination into our lives as well as creating a more "divine life". Come with me on this exciting journey!
